Rhinotuff: A Good Idea Keeps Getting Better
Author: Michael White
Not so long ago when a business wanted to purchase a system to punch and bind their internal and external printed documents they had to make a decision about which binding style to choose. Unless they wanted to invest in multiple platforms whatever they chose would often become the entrenched style in the company. If comb binding was the first choice then for years going forward everything that was bound for presentation took that form.
A sort of revolution took place in the desktop binding industry when a small company in Boise called Performance Design began marketing a rugged platform of modular punches. Before PDI if you bought a desktop punch you chose a style, most often coil, wire or comb binding were the methods. When PDI began offering a punch that had removable dies customers could choose one, two, three or more dies representing different punch patterns. No longer was it necessary to purchase complete new systems. To change methods a business could order a new die and the accompanying inexpensive inserter when it wanted a new style.
PDI took the Rhinotuff line a step further by manufacturing the inserter line to sit on top, mount on top or stand next to the punch. This provided the customer the option of running the system as a single operator or for higher production a two person operation.
Pretty soon just about every manufacturer was marketing their version of the modular punch machine. While there are some pretty good platforms the Rhinotuff system still has most of the best features.
Here are a few features to consider:
- Rugged construction, all steel
- Heavy duty motors
- Open service platform, easy to repair
- Multiple & inexpensive die options
- Innovative new product additions, semi-auto take away for example
- Inexpensive & rugged inserters
- Made in America
When looking into a quality, reliable and functional system the Rhinotuff line has to be part of the decision making process.
