Went too big for my skill on a pipe, lost control on my landing, broke both legs. I got to ride around in a sick wheelchair for a while though. Haha lucky for me the season was pretty much over
so far bloody nose, torn rib cartelidge and shoulder dislocation.
But thats taking risks, like the others said your going to be bruised. But how badly do you want to be good? If you don’t make mistakes you don’t make anything.
snowboarding and injuries?
how common are snowboarding injuries especially with amateurs?
considering taking classes through school but just dont want to have any set backs when the track season comes along im fine with scrapes and bruises though
came over a hill, went airborn. 2 skiiers i couldn’t see before i got air were camped out taking pictures right where i was going to come down. i managed to twist my body to avoid them, but separated my shoulder and had 11 stitches on my chin by the time i was done tumbling.
But a lesson will not keep you from falling down at some point in time.
I would recommend protecting your body parts so when you fall you’ll have much easier time getting back up and going at it again.
At the very minimum, wear a helmet and a butt pad. Burton makes Impact Shorts that wear like biking shorts but cover your tailbone and most sides of your hips. This piece of clothing also will help keep your cheeks from getting cold when sitting on the snow.
Also recommended protective clothing include: over-the-glove wrist guards, neoprene knee and elbow pads.
If you wear this protection, your first snowboard experience will likely include more fun and MUCH less pain and agony.
The above gear should be worn under your outer layers with the exception of the wrist guards and helmet. Many other students in your snowboarding class might be jealous when you take a fall and don’t writhe in pain because they don’t know that you thought ahead and wore protective gear.
That definately sounds like a mild concussion. You can still get one when wearing a helmet, it’ll just be less. You asked this question 20 hours ago so if your head is still sore, go to the doctor. For future reference, take tylenol instead… ibuprofen and aspirin can make bruising worst.
Also, for future reference:
-apply ice for “goose eggs”
-go see doctor if hitting head is accompanied by: nausea, dizziness, weakness, confusion, loss of consciousness, seizures, heart palpitation, numbness, visual changes, neck pain, memory loss, flashing lights, “lost time”,
-falling from a height that is your height or lower USUALLY doesn’t require medical attention if a helmet is worn
-rest, tylenol and plenty of fluids for minor head injury
you can go to sleep with a head injury, but you need to get someone to wake you every 2-3 hours and ask you a question such as your name.
hopefully that helps for next time
if you fall directly on your head there’s a chance of spinal trauma so i’d go to the hospital if that happened
going snowboarding tomorrow for the first time, how do i avoid serious injuries?
I have no idea what I’m doing and no one wants to go on the beginner slopes with me. Oh and how much are lessons?
What’s the worst snowboarding injury you’ve gotten?
I got my worst yesterday. I fell off a rail and hit my hand on it. It ended up that I broke my left ring finger, but that’s my first and most serious injury I’ve gotten in three years of snowboarding. Kinda lame…
snowboarding injuries?? :S?
i went snowboarding for the first time today, and, naturally, fell a lot. while i never fell directly on my head, my head got pretty jarred. about halfway through the day, i suddenly got a huge, throbbing headache. this was around 2 or 3 pm. it just worsened as the day went on. once i got home, i took 2 ibuprofen, hoping that itd alleviate the headache. that was at around 9 or 9:30. now here i sit at 11:03 pm, and the headache has not gone away. i figure at the best, i just got jarred around a lot today and have a headache…..but at the worst, that i could have a concussion or brain bleeding. can anyone help?? i don’t know what’s wrong with me, and im scared to go to sleep in case i have brain bleeding and die in my sleep :S call me a hypochondriac, but im worried…
p.s. i WAS wearing a helmet.

Other than that. I haven’t hurt myself at all :]

A beginner lesson is a smart way to start.
